Pups in “poodle skirts” highlight sock hop theme prom fundraiser

Posted

The Bucks County Housing Group received a $1,500 donation from Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center in Doylestown.

Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center held its annual Dog Prom fundraising event on May 10. Official prom portraits were taken of the dogs, whose parents donated money to the organization. A ’50s sock hop was the theme, complete with handmade “poodle skirts” adorned with tennis balls and bones instead of the iconic poodle.

In conjunction with the event, the resort held a people and pet food drive during the week of the fundraising event. Over 200 pounds of human and pet food were delivered to the Bucks County Housing Group (BCHG) food pantry in Doylestown.

“Recently, the food pantries have needed farm and dairy products – including milk, yogurt, and eggs – so this donation will be used to add those essential items to the pantries for our families,” said Steven Keller, food program manager for the Bucks County Housing Group.

In addition to the Doylestown location, the BCHG also operates a food pantry in Langhorne. According to Keller, the Doylestown pantry receives about 110 visits weekly. The food received at the pantry feeds around 400 people a week. Often families experiencing food insecurity are also caring for a pet. Pet food donations also help families with the cost of feeding a pet.

The pet parents enjoyed an after-prom ’50s diner-themed reception with complimentary refreshments during day care dismissal hours. A raffle to benefit BCHG included a Holiday House Pet Resort gift basket featuring free resort services and pet-related items.
