Doylestown Health suspends privileges of leading OB/GYN

Posted

A long-practicing Doylestown obstetrician and gynecologist has been suspended from practicing at Doylestown Hospital, the health care facility said in a statement on its website.

Dr. Scott Dinesen, of Dinesen & Associates in Doylestown Borough, had his clinical privileges formally suspended on Aug. 4, according to the hospital’s statement. Citing privacy and confidentiality requirements, as well as peer review process, no reason was provided for the action.

“Doylestown Hospital’s Medical Staff Leadership took the serious action of suspending Dr. Scott Dinesen’s clinical privileges,” the announcement said.

In a recent email to his current and former patients, Dinesen announced that after 28 years of providing care at Doylestown Hospital he would be transitioning "to become affiliated with Jefferson Abington Hospital and will perform deliveries and gynecologic surgeries at Jefferson Abington Hospital to better serve our patients’ needs."

All other physicians and healthcare providers practicing at Dinesen & Associates continue to have privileges at Doylestown Hospital and the practice’s office at Doylestown Health’s Pavilion remains open, according to the hospital.

Dinesen is listed among the leaders of Axia Women’s Health, a network of OB/GYN physicians and breast health, high-risk pregnancy and fertility centers that serve patients in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is the network’s Medical Affairs for Expanded Care vice president.

“Dr. Dinesen has been a pillar of the Doylestown community for over three decades, known for providing excellent, high-quality care to his patients,” an update on the Axia Women’s Health website read. “This is evidenced by the thousands of women who have trusted Dinesen & Associates with their care. We are deeply surprised and concerned by the comments made by Doylestown Hospital and have contacted them to express our concern.”

Doylestown Health’s statement noted that it “is aware of misinformation spreading in our community about our maternity, labor and delivery services. Doylestown Hospital provides the highest-quality services to women of all ages in our community.

“The VIA Maternity Center is not closing. These programs continue to be a core component of our mission as we enter the next century of care.”

Patients can find a list of obstetric and gynecological service providers with full clinical privileges at Doylestown Hospital at doylestownhealth.org/obgyn, the hospital said.
