Saint Andrew’s Lambertville presents Christmas service of Lessons and Carols

Posted

Lessons and Carols for Christmas will be presented by the choir at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, York and Main streets, Lambertville, N.J., at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21.

This annual event is offered to celebrate the Advent and Christmas Season. The format of Lessons and Carols at Saint Andrew’s follows that of the world-famous Lessons and Carols service of King’s College, Cambridge, England, which was adapted from an 1880 Christmas Eve service in Truro, England, and first presented at King’s College in 1918.

The service is a bit over an hour in length. It will include the reading of Lessons, between which the choir of Saint Andrew’s Church will present traditional Christmas carols and anthems. The congregation will also sing some Christmas favorites.

The service will feature works by Sir David Willcocks, Vaughan Williams, John Rutter, John Gardiner, and the Renaissance composer Tomas Victoria. Midway through the service all will be invited to sing “Silent Night” by candlelight.

Saint Andrew’s choir is under the direction of Michael T. Kevane, the parish’s organist and choirmaster. All are welcome. Parking is on the street. For information, visit standrewslambertville.org.
