Quakertown ekes out win

Posted

The Quakertown girls field hockey team edged host Palisades 2-1 Saturday at Walter T. Rohrer Stadium.
The Panthers broke a 1-1 tie in the third quarter on a goal by Alexis Mowrer (assisted by Megan Roth). Kaitlin Calvello scored the Panthers’ other goal and Kylie Lerch made eight saves in the contest.
Palisades’ lone goal came off the stick of senior Angelina Day (assisted by Tori Bahnck).

“Today was a good game between two evenly matched teams,” commented Panthers head coach Kate Kemp. “Palisades has some really strong players and moves the ball well. Kaitlin Calvello had a beautiful tip in goal in the second quarter off a Kiera Gallagher pass. Alexis Mowrer tipped a Megan Roth pass in on one of our corners for our second goal. It’s been a long week for our team playing four games but they kept up the intensity the entire 60 minutes.”
Palisades (10-6-1) had one game left on its schedule, a home contest Wednesday vs. Palmerton, before the start of the Colonial League playoffs this weekend.
Quakertown (7-6), currently 23rd in the District One Class 3A rankings, hosts Wissahickon Friday.
