New Hope resident among first Peace Corps Response volunteers to return to service overseas

Posted

New Hope resident Margaret Dougherty is among the first Peace Corps Response volunteers to return to overseas service since the agency’s global evacuation in March 2020.

The Peace Corps suspended global operations and evacuated nearly 7,000 volunteers from more than 60 countries at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Following my study abroad experience, I felt a drive to continue to learn and grow through travel and change, and I also felt a deep motivation to help others in some way that utilized my abilities and passions,” said Dougherty. “I knew that Peace Corps would be able to match this drive and motivation better than I could. I am most excited for the opportunity to live with a homestay for two years and share connection and culture.”

Dougherty is a graduate of Rolling College with bachelor’s degrees in anthropholgy and music. She will serve as an education volunteer in Indonesia.
