Local OB/GYN to close after Doylestown Health suspended doctor

Posted

Dinesen & Associates is closing its obstetrics and gynecology practice after nearly 30 years in Doylestown Borough.

“Unfortunately, recent staffing changes and an industry-wide OB/GYN shortage have created a lack of resources and placed a significant burden on our practice. While we explored many options, we ultimately determined it was no longer sustainable to continue operating,” the practice said Monday in a statement.

The office, on the Doylestown Hospital campus, will close permanently Dec. 15.

The announcement comes less than three months after Doylestown Hospital suspended Dr. Scott Dinesen’s clinical privileges for undisclosed reasons.

Patients who are currently pregnant and estimated to deliver on or before Dec. 1 do not need to transition to another provider, the statement said. For those with due dates after Dec. 1, the practice said it would contact those women to discuss an individual plan.

Those expecting to deliver after Dec. 15 can expect to be contacted by a member of the Dinesen team, which can be reached at 215-489-2066, the statement said.

Anyone with surgery scheduled can expect their provider to help determine a care plan.

Patients can also transition to other providers in Axia Women’s Health network, which Dinesen & Associates joined several years ago. Those include:

• Athena OB/GYN (affiliated with Jefferson Abington Hospital), 267-946-5200

• Center for Total Women’s Health (affiliated with Einstein Medical Center Montgomery), 215-368-1950.

Immediately following Dinesen’s suspension, the practice said it intended to remain open, with all its other physicians and healthcare providers continuing to have privileges at the Doylestown Health facility.

Dr. Dinesen immediately moved to Jefferson Abington Hospital, following the suspension. He will continue to see his patients, however, for annual exams, general gynecological needs and routine OB appointments and follow-up postpartum care through Dec. 15, in Doylestown.

“Dr. Dinesen has been a pillar of the community for over three decades, known for providing excellent, high-quality care to his patients,” Axia Women’s Health said of the physician at the time of the suspension.

He is listed among the leaders in Axia Women’s Health, a network of OB/GYN doctors and breast health, high-risk pregnancy and fertility centers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
