Iron Girl Project awards scholarships

Posted

Iron Girl Project, Inc. (IGP) has awarded nine Alexea G. Karpinski Memorial Scholarships totaling $20,277 to graduating high school student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, determination and compassion on their teams, in their classrooms and in their communities.

Iron Girl Project, Inc. was specifically created to honor the memory of Alexea “Lex” Karpinski, an aspiring two-sport D1 athlete and honor roll student in her junior year at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, who passed away suddenly in November of 2020. It supports high school student-athletes on their journey to create their own legacy, one which has a positive impact on their teammates, families and communities.

The nine winners were chosen out of 53 entries received from high school students across New Jersey.

The winners include:

Paisley Fox of Flemington, N.J., Hunterdon Central Regional High School;

Laurel Hanrahan of Three Bridges, N.J., Hunterdon Central Regional High School;

Maria Ippolito of Flemington, Hunterdon Central Regional High School;

Elena Lynott of Flemington, Hunterdon Central Regional High School;

Laurel Reese of Flemington, Hunterdon Central Regional High School

Jack Tully of Flemington, N.J., Immaculata High School.

The amount of the scholarship given to each winner was $2,253.00 to reflect the jersey numbers Lex wore at Hunterdon Central, No. 22 for lacrosse and No. 53 for field hockey.

The next fundraising event, the Links for Lex Second Annual Golf Outing will be hosted by Iron Girl Project and the Stanton Ridge Golf & Country Club in Whitehouse Station, N.J., on Monday, Sept. 18.

Registration information for the golf outing and other annual fundraising events can be found by visiting irongirlproject.org or by emailing ironproject@gmail.com.
