HomeFront slates events during National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week

HomeFront will recognize Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Saturday, Nov. 13 through Nov. 20.

The Mercer County, N.J., nonprofit, active in the community since 1991, provides primarily families with children who are living in the shadow of homelessness emergency and permanent housing, homelessness prevention funds, and an array of wraparound services.

HomeFront’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week events will include both in-person and virtual opportunities, including educational sessions with local and national experts in these issues, forums to ask questions and offer ideas, service opportunities, open houses, and guided tours at several HomeFront facilities. There will also be information on how to sign up for life enhancing volunteer opportunities for people of all ages during the holiday season.

HomeFront’s National Hunger & Homelessness week events will include:

• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 – open house at HomeFront’s SewingSpace and tours of the nonprofit’s headquarters, including its donation center, Fran’s Food Pantry, SewingSpace, etc. 

• Noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15 – Virtual “Welcome to HomeFront” Orientation, which overviews the current need in the community and Homefront’s comprehensive services model to break the cycle of local poverty.

• 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17  – HomeFront’s Diaper Resource Center Volunteer Opportunity.  

• 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18  –   Expert panel discussion on the long-lasting effects the pandemic has had on vulnerable populations and what local and national agencies are doing to lessen the impact. 

• Noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov.  19 – Virtual Lunch and Learn with HomeFront’s Chief Executive Officer Connie Mercer and Chief Operating Officer Sarah Steward.

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 – Thanksgiving Drive Service Opportunity. Help pack Thanksgiving dinner baskets at HomeFront which will be distributed to the nonprofit’s client families.
