Doylestown Township’s supervisors have unanimously approved the promotion of Lt. Charles Zeigler to Chief of Police.
The change won’t take effect until October, when current police Chief Dean Logan retires. It’s also contingent upon negotiation of an employment agreement, the township said.
Supervisors said the board held several interviews and heard from Logan, the township’s previous long-serving chief, Stephen White, and Matt Weintraub, Bucks County’s former district attorney, among other professionals in law enforcement. All had “outstanding recommendations for Lt. Zeigler,” officials said.
Zeigler has been with the township’s police department for 21 years, first joining as a patrol officer in 2003. He moved up through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant in 2020. He served as the program manager when the department went through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation process and was a field training officer.
Logan expressed strong support for his lieutenant, telling him at the meeting, “I think you earned it through doing the right thing, making the right decisions and longevity. That’s commitment to this township.”
The chief said he told the board that Doylestown Township needed a leader “who wants to be here and has been in the community and will fight for your community. You’re getting nothing less than that with (Zeigler). He’s got the greatest temperament of anybody in this police department.”
