ACME Screening Room presents Black History Month screening and Q&A

Posted

Join the Acme Screening Room, 25 S. Union St., Lambertville, N.J., at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, for a Black History Month special screening of “The One and Only Dick Gregory.”

A Post Screening Q&A will follow with Dr. Christian Gregory, eighth child of Dick and Lillian Gregory and the film editor and ACME Board Member Patrick Murphy.

The film gives its singular subject his due with a comprehensive retrospective and thoughtful commentary, highlighting how the comedy icon’s contributions extended far beyond the stage. Filmmaker Andre Gaines examines the remarkable life and career of stand-up comic, activist and pop culture icon Dick Gregory with a thoughtful film about a politically committed artist that doesn’t short the politics or the art, but instead examines how one fueled the other.

Dr. Christian Gregory, who appears in the film, maintained a chiropractic practice in Washington for 25 years, caring for D.C. natives, leading entertainment figures, and friends in the movement, including Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, Dorothy Height, Cicely Tyson, and Stevie Wonder.

When Dick Gregory decided to resume an active speaking and entertainment schedule, Christian became his father’s manager. Since Dick’s passing in 2017, he has managed his father’s estate and intellectual property, and has successfully guided the development of other projects on his father’s life, including the stage play “Turn Me Loose.”
