Yardley welcomes part-time officer, accepts police grant

Posted

Yardley Borough’s Council took care of some police matters at its Feb. 21 meeting. Lucas K. Murray was sworn in by Mayor Chris Harding as the borough’s newest part-time police officer, and council also accepted a $47,957 local law enforcement grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

Murray’s hire is conditioned on him passing all required examinations of the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission. He is a 2005 graduate of Temple University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a 2013 graduate of the Camden County (N.J.) Police Academy.

According to Borough Police Chief Joseph D. Kelly III, Murray has more than a decade of police experience split between New Jersey and Pennsylvania agencies in both patrol and investigative positions.

“During this critical time in police recruiting, Yardley Borough is fortunate to have Officer Murray join our ranks,” Kelly said. “Officer Murray comes to the Yardley Borough Police Department with years of varied experience and a passion for community policing.”

The grant, obtained with the help of state Senator Steve Santarsiero, will be used to replace aging body cameras, replace a mobile data terminal in one of the police vehicles and purchase and install two mobile automated license plate readers for patrol vehicles.
