Yardley parks board donates $4,500 to borough groups

Posted

Three Yardley Borough organizations will benefit from a total of $4,500 donated to them by the borough’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Parks Board Chairwoman Akvile Dammer and members Susan Schneck and Carol Schultz presented the checks at the Dec. 20 council meeting. The borough’s American Legion Post received $2,500 while the Yardley Historical Association and Friends of Lake Afton organizations both received $1,000.

The money will help the three groups with various needs and expenses, the three parks board members said. Funds for the donations are raised from the board’s two major fundraisers during the year, a 5K run and the Memorial Mile, and have been donated to borough-based organizations at council meetings near the end of the year for about the last 10 years.

In other news from the Dec. 20 meeting, Council voted 6-0 to approve a $381,800 contract with Premier Builders, the low bidder, for elevation of a building at 45 S. Delaware Ave. Money for this and other elevations is coming from a $2 million Federal Emergency Management Agency grant awarded to the borough in April of 2021.
