Work underway for Doylestown Target

Posted

The Bon-Ton department store chain went bankrupt in 2018 and its popular Doylestown location was shuttered. Now, work has begun in earnest on its replacement.

Target is expected to open next spring or summer, according to Chris Robbins of The Robbins Companies, which represents the Doylestown Shopping Center’s owner.

Besides the department store and the Mercantile, which operated there for about two years, Target will also occupy the former Essentials Day Spa and the Hallmark store.

Robbins said the mid-size store will be about 74,000 square feet and bring the center, built in the 1950s, to 100% capacity.

While Target is using the existing structure at the North Main Street center, Robbins said, the appearance will be dramatically different. The golden-color top that defines the roof line of the shopping center is coming down over the Target site. Target’s signature black and red motif will take center stage, Robbins said.

“It will be a modern, striking addition to the shopping center,” said the leasing executive, whose family developed the center in the 1950s. “It will have great vibrancy and be a great resource for the community in the middle of the borough. We’re thrilled to have them.”

The new business will be about six miles away from the Target on Route 611 in Warrington.

Some community members have expressed concern about parking in the center, but Robbins said, “We were 100 percent leased before and parking was fine; we’re 100 percent leased again and parking will be fine.”
