Wolf Administration to raise awareness of national unemployment fraud issue, provide information and tips

Posted

Tomorrow at 10 a.m., Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Secretary Jennifer Berrier, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Bureau of Criminal Investigation Director Major Jeremy Richard, and Department of Banking and Securities Deputy Secretary for Financial Services Tim Arthun will provide an update on the national unemployment fraud issue and provide information and tips for Pennsylvanians at PSP headquarters in Harrisburg.

Since the pandemic began last year, fraudsters have filed for and attempted to steal unemployment benefits using stolen identities obtained from data breaches outside of state government. Victims often are completely unaware their identities have been stolen, sometimes years before, and that their personal information, such as their addresses and Social Security numbers, are being bought and sold by criminals online.
