Widener University recognizes high school students

Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10 and Telemundo62, recognizes the 107 winners of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards for 2022.

Over more than a decade, the university has recognized more than 1,400 students from high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who demonstrated leadership within their communities.

This year’s honorees include:

– Caroline Alegado of Chalfont. Alegado, who attends Lansdale Catholic High School, has made a difference by actively participating in a number of school programs and clubs, tutoring other students in her free time, and volunteering in her community..

– Eva Borkowski of Bensalem. Borkowski, who attends Nazareth Academy High School, has made a difference by volunteering within the school, serving as the vice president of Pandas Stand Up, an organization dedicated to domestic abuse awareness, and being a leader in her school’s All-Catholic chorus and theater program..

– Mia Chuma of New Hope. Chuma, who attends New Hope-Solebury High School, has made a difference by serving as a leader in various school clubs, tutoring and mentoring younger students, and being a dedicated volunteer with the Philadelphia chapter of the Ukrainian Scouting Organization..

– Camila O’Donnell of Riegelsville. O’Donnell, who attends Palisades High School, has made a difference by being an exemplary leader in various student groups and clubs, including French Club and student government, as well as sticking up for other students and making the school a more inclusive place.

– Lauren Abbamont of Wrightstown. Abbamont, who attends Villa Joseph Marie High School, has made a difference by volunteering with the community service corps, serving as an altar server, and actively participating in a number of school programs including Student Council, performing arts and more..

Winners were invited to an in-person program March 31 with their families and school administrators at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia’s historic district. In addition to being recognized as young leaders in the region, if students enroll at Widener as undergraduates, they will take part in the university’s prestigious Apogee Leadership Scholars program and receive a $20,000 scholarship over four years. Apogee Scholars also take part in four years of leadership programming and earn a Widener Leadership Certificate.
