Whatever happened to “one nation, under God?”

Posted

As an old lady looking back in time, I am disappointed in how this country is divided. I remember World War II. This country worked together to stay free from dictators.

All able-bodied men were drafted, the women took over their jobs, children collected milkweed thistle for life preservers, and collected tin cans for the war effort.

Many things were rationed, gas, sugar, coffee, cigarettes and certain foods.

Everyone had a bucket of sand and a shovel in their home in case of an air strike. Air raid drills were common. No one was permitted to have any lights on until the all-clear was sounded.

We all helped each other.

Those who did not smoke saved their cigarettes for those who did. Carpooling was effective way of saving gas. Everyone looked after each other.

Sorry to say, but today it is dog eat dog world. Children are being slaughtered for the lack of intelligent use of guns, hatred for anyone who doesn’t look or think like us, money and personal power is worshiped. I wonder what happened to “one nation under God.”

Will this country wake up in time to do what is right? Will we self destruct?

Let us put aside our differences and work together for the good of all. Love and prayers for all.
