Lorraine Jasper has once again proven she’s not just one of the fastest age-group runners in the United States but also one of the most swiftest in the world.
On Thursday at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, the 60-year-old Warwick Township, Bucks County resident took home the bronze medal in a season’s best time of 2:39.72.
This just a couple weeks after winning the gold medal in the same event in the USATF Indoor Championships at Louisville, Ky.
The race at the World Masters was one for the record books as Great Britain’s Virginia Mitchell ran an amazing 2:29.96 to set a new standard in the 60-age group.
Spain’s Esther Pedrosa took the silver medal in 2:39.56.
At Louisville, Jasper represented the Greater Philadelphia Track Club and finished in 2:47.08. GTC teammate Julie Hayden placed second in 2:49.09.
Jasper has been competing in running events for decades. The mother of four children is a cancer survivor and her story has been an inspiration to many in the running community.
In January 2018, USATF named her winner of the Masters Grand Prix Award for 2017, with her photograph and accomplishments published in National Masters News magazine.
