Upper Makefield names public works foreman

Posted

Upper Makefield has found its foreman.

At a recent public meeting, the township’s Board of Supervisors appointed Mark Wert to the position of foreman in the Public Works Department.

“Mark has the experience required for the position and is a good fit for the team,” said Upper Makefield Township Manager Dave Nyman.

Wert has been with the township public works department since 2018. He takes over for Matt Gorman, who rose to the township PWD’s top job of superintendent following the retirement of Bruce Scott last year.

Before joining Upper Makefield five years ago, Wert, a Neshaminy High School graduate, held positions as an ambulance driver, truck driver and grounds/maintenance role with the Morrisville School District, among other roles.

Wert is also certified a firefighter, serving as a captain at William Penn Fire Company. He will be able to assist on fire calls in Upper Makefield, should the need arise.

The Upper Makefield Township Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of 56 miles of township roadways and township properties.

This includes maintaining not only municipal buildings and parks but also making sure township roads are clear and safe for year-round travel.

In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining street signage, including maintaining visibility, such as removing foliage that’s obscuring signs.
