Thousands enjoy Harvest Day Festival in Yardley Borough

Posted

Yardley Borough was wall to wall activity Saturday, Sept. 17, as thousands of people took in all the attractions of the Harvest Day Festival.

Generally considered Yardley’s biggest event of the year, Harvest Day was held for the 54th time since it started in the 1960s. It was canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We come every year, my fiance and I,” said Yardley resident Dave Muggler. “It’s nice to see all the arts and crafts and get out and support the community.”

The event featured dozens of vendors selling various foods and drinks, clothes, jewelry, flowers, paintings and many other items.

There were also rides, games and many booths staffed by people from VFW Post 6393, the Bucks County Genealogical Society, Yardley Historical Association and many others answering questions and providing information about their organizations. Members of the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company took children and their parents through one of the company’s big firetrucks.

“This is a small town fair, so it has a lot of homey things and a lot of local folks that come out,” said Martina Hermann, who came from just across the Delaware River in Ewing, N.J., for her third Harvest Day.

“It’s a nice flavor. Ewing is so much more urban, so it’s a nice change. It’s very interesting in this whole area around Philadelphia how you can go really urban or really country in a very short time.”
