The Great American Popcorn Works premiers in Doylestown

Posted

If you think popcorn is just for the movies, think again.

In a tiny store tucked into Doylestown Borough’s busy retail center along East State Street is a new shop devoted to popcorn lovers of every stripe.

The Great American Popcorn Works of Pennsylvania is seemingly overflowing with popcorn. There are the classics, all natural gourmet white and white cheddar, but there’s so much more. For those who like it sweet and salty, there’s chocolate drizzled dark caramel and peanut butter cup caramel to name just a few. If your tastes run more toward the spicy, there’s jalapeno and sriracha, too. Don’t miss the dill pickle, a big favorite.

“We have a flavor that fits everyone,” said Scott Fleisher, who owns and helps run the store with his twin brother Steve, aka the “chief popper.” The brothers opened the store a couple of weeks ago, expanding on their popular location in Telford, said Scott, who some may recognize as the borough’s fire marshal. He’s also Point Pleasant Fire Company’s volunteer fire chief.

“We love the community,” said Scott, as he stood behind the counter, welcoming customers as they surveyed the shelves brimming with offerings. The shop sells specialty hot sauces, its own Fire Chief Coffee roasted in Lancaster and flavored pretzels from Tabora Farms in Chalfont. A Doylestown coffee roaster is “coming soon,” Scott said.

A grand opening is planned for this weekend. As luck would have it, National Caramel Popcorn Day is Saturday.
