Dancer of the Year

Posted

Tessa Anderson, a 12-year-old dancer, won Dancer of the Year for the Junior Division at the Groove National Dance Competition, held in Atlantic City, N.J. The Dancer of the Year competition was broken down into three rounds: Round 1 (solo performances), Round 2 (convention classes - tap, hip hop, jazz and contemporary) and Round 3 (finals). In Round 1, each Dancer of the Year participant performed their exclusive solo. From there, the semifinalists were announced to continue to Round 2. In Round 2, semifinalists participated in convention classes offered at the appropriate age level. Each semifinalist then had a “closed audition” and was scored by the convention teachers. A Top 3 (finalists) in each age division was then determined and continued to Round 3. In Round 3, each finalist re-performed their exclusive Dancer of the Year solo from Round 1. After those solos were scored a winner from each age division was announced. Tessa has been dancing for nine years and is a member of the HealthQuest Dance Academy Q-Dynamic dance team of Flemington, N.J.
