Take a journey with the Delaware Valley Wind Symphony

Posted

Take a hike through the Grand Canyon, cheer for the hometown team at a baseball game and experience the excitement of a rodeo, all from the comfort of your seat at a Delaware Valley Wind Symphony concert.

Join the Delaware Valley Wind Symphony, led by Music Director Steven B. Sweetsir, at the Holland Middle School auditorium, 400 E. Holland Road, Holland, at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 23, for an innovative concert that will immerse attendees in the sights and sounds of spring. The facility is handicapped-accessible with ample free parking.

Feel like you are actually walking through the Grand Canyon as you watch a larger-than-life, visual presentation featuring the photography of local artist Dan Troy, while listening to the evocative sounds of “Sunrise at Angel’s Gate,” a musical composition depicting the majesty of the canyon.

Next, relive the story of baseball’s most famous fictional character as you listen to a musical setting of Ernest Lawrence Thayer’s epic poem, “Casey at the Bat.” Composed in 1888 and loved by generations, the poem will be read by Grammy-nominated, local composer Kile Smith.

Thrill to the sounds of the rodeo as you hear a performance of “Buckeroo Holiday,” from Aaron Copeland’s wildly popular ballet, “Rodeo.” Then, take a trip to the circus as you listen to a rousing performance of John Heed’s famous circus march, “In Storm and Sunshine.”

The concert will also include a performance of the first movement of “Concerto for Marimba and Band,” featuring marimba soloist Molly Cregar. A high school senior from Calvary Christian Academy in Philadelphia, she is the winner of DVWS’s 2023 Concerto Soloist Competition and the recipient of the Jerry Nowak Memorial Scholarship.

Tickets are $15 for adults and free for students and children. Visit online for information.
