Hockey: CR South triumphs over Pennridge

Posted

Illia Mukhin’s two goals propelled Council Rock South past Pennridge 5-3 in a Feb. 1 Suburban High School Hockey League game at Hatfield Ice.

Mukhin’s first goal of the evening gave the Golden Hawks a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period and his second score at 9:36 in the third period put the Golden Hawks up 4-2 before South’s Chase Tovsky salted the game away with an even-strength goal with under seven minutes left in regulation. Pennridge tacked on an empty-net goal for the game’s final tally, 5-3.

Sitting atop the SHSHL National standings, CR South (13-1-0-1) has two regular season games remaining – against CB East Feb. 9 and Neshaminy Feb. 15 – while Pennridge (10-4-0-0) has three, the first a duel with Neshaminy on Feb. 9, followed by CR North on Feb. 15 and CB East Feb. 16. At press time the Rams were fourth in division play.
