It was homecoming day Friday for the now-recovered Solebury Bald Eagle who was finally reunited with his mate and baby eaglet.
The eagle, felled by lead poisoning, was released near his nesting place on Pidcock Creek Road by Leah Stallings and Stephen Lis of the Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center of Chalfont.
The rehab took about three weeks and $400 worth of medicine and flight training, said Stallings, executive director at the Aark Center.
The eagle was taken to his home territory wearing a falconry hood and then, hood removed, released. At that point, he flew straight up to the nest where his mate had picked up the feeding chores, Stallings said.
And his previously nest-bound eaglet — apparently wanting to impress his returning dad — took the occasion to step out of the nest to an adjacent branch, she added, as if to say “Welcome home, Dad."
