Scarecrows return to Peddler’s Village in September

Posted

“Scarecrow Season” at Peddler’s Village opens Sept. 11, when its annual village-wide display of more than 100 scarecrows—Scarecrows in the Village—opens to the public.

During the weekend of Sept. 16 and 17, Peddler’s Village in Lahaska will also host a Scarecrow Festival that will include scarecrow-making workshops, live entertainment, and other family-friendly activities.

Other events taking place in September at Peddler’s Village include Saturday scarecrow-making workshops, a free outdoor movie, a murder mystery dinner show, a comedy night, a Food Truck Thursday, and an Autumn Wedding Show.

Every day, visitors can explore 60 unique specialty shops and boutiques, enjoy dining experiences at seven restaurants, visit the indoor family entertainment center known as Giggleberry Fair, and stroll on winding paths through seasonal gardens. They can also stay overnight at the on-site Golden Plough, a 66-room country-elegant inn.

The seven-week-long Scarecrows in the Village competition and display showcases dozens of scarecrows created by Philly-area residents. All members of the public are invited to participate. Registration for the competition, which awards cash prizes up to $300, is open through Wednesday, Sept. 6. From Sept. 11 through Oct. 9, visitors can vote for their favorite scarecrows via the Peddler’s Village mobile app or by picking up a paper ballot at the Visitor and Event Center. The display will continue through Oct. 29.

On Saturday, Sept. 16 and Sunday, Sept. 17, Peddler’s Village will host its Scarecrow Festival, a weekend of fall fun featuring scarecrow workshops, live music, a juggling show, pumpkin painting, ax throwing, sand art, and outdoor food and drinks. Advance registration for the scarecrow workshops is strongly encouraged; tickets and walk-in opportunities will be limited.

Families and groups that register for the event will be guaranteed a designated space, materials and step-by-step instructions to create a life-size scarecrow to take home. The weekend schedule can be found on PeddlersVillage.com. Guests can also register for scarecrow workshops on Sept. 23 and 30.

Other events this September include a last-of-the-season Food Truck Thursday on Thursday, Sept. 14, an interactive murder mystery dinner theater show, “Midnight at the Masquerade,” on Friday, Sept. 29, and a free outdoor movie night featuring “Jumanji: The Next Level” on Saturday Sept. 30.

Couples interested in learning more about weddings at Peddler’s Village can register for the free Autumn Wedding Show on Sunday, Sept. 10, where they can sample complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and desserts, tour banquet and lodging spaces, view wedding fashions, and meet the Peddler’s Village event planning team and preferred vendors.

In October, fall celebrations will continue with the annual October Feast weekend on Oct. 14 and 15, a pumpkin-carving contest starting on Oct. 24, and two Halloween parties: the Slightly Batty Halloween Wing-Ding for kids on Oct. 28 and the Ghostly Graveyard Gala for adults on Oct. 27.
