The Doylestown Rugby men’s team has been hard at work this season and won its first match on Oct. 15, against South Jersey, after losing to Philly Whitemarsh on Oct. 1.

In the 17-65 loss to Philly Whitemarsh, Doylestown tries were scored by Shannon Pearson, Julian Bellman and Julio Marsiglia. Jeremy Ault made a conversion.

Following the match with Philly Whitemarsh, there was a bye week. Then, Doylestown came back firing on all cylinders on Saturday to top South Jersey 33-17. Try scorers were Eric French, Matt Frederick, Kevin Hockings, Max Campo, and Kevin Belmont. Jeremy Ault made four conversions.

There are two more matches left in the season. On Saturday, Oct. 22, the Dragons will play Phoenixville in an away match, with a 1 p.m. kickoff. The last match of the fall season will be played at home 1 p.m. Oct. 29 against Old Gaelic. The home pitch is located at the Maennerchor Field, 3650 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Doylestown.

On Oct. 15, the women’s team fell to North East Irish Women 47-12. The Lady Dragons played a hard-fought match, but only co-captains, Morgan Stiffler and Maddie Groninger, scored tries. Katie Walston-Frederick made her only conversion attempt.

The women will play Harrisburg Women at Maennerchor Field 11 a.m. Oct. 22.

The Doylestown Rugby Academy middle school girls team traveled to Morris, N.J., on Oct. 1 to play Morris Middle School Girls in two matches. The teams split, with a win apiece. The Dragons took the first match, 15-5, and Morris took the second match, 21-7. Try scorers for the day were Sydney Haddon (two), Siena Accardi (one) and Ryleigh Sanders (one). Haddon also made one conversion.

The Doylestown Rugby Academy high school girls team traveled to Lancaster on Oct. 2 to participate in the Knightmares’ Tournament, which was part of the RugbyPA Fall 7s Tournament circuit. The girls went 1-3 for the day against Downingtown 0-19, Knightmares 29-0, West Carroll 14-19, and Hollidaysburg 0-26. Maddie Doyle, Reaghan King, and Siena Accardi led the team with two tries each. Nolah Flynn had one try. King made one conversion and Flynn made three conversions.

The girls will participate in West Chester University’s High School 7s Tournament on Oct. 23.
