This month celebrates the one-year anniversary of Spirit N Soul Fitness, a dance and fitness studio that offers more than just your average callisthenics.
Alternative movement classes such as pole dance, aerial lyra, hula hooping, bungee and social dance are just a few of the non-traditional offerings on the menu of this riverside fitness oasis.
The Riegelsville business was conceived by Shawn Marie Luez, 56 of Ottsville, after a life-altering diagnosis of cancer and extensive surgery. Luez graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in corporate wellness/exercise physiology and is a 35-year veteran of the fitness/wellness industry.
Through the recovery process, she promised to spend the rest of her days lifting others up and opened the studio with a mission to bring health, vitality, and a lifestyle full of spirit and soul to the Upper Bucks community.
In the summer of 2022, Luez connected with Brigid LaGuardia, 52, who had been teaching pole and belly dance in Riegelsville for almost eight years. It was then that Luez’s concept of a Cirque Du FIt studio was born. Envisioning unique fitness classes with a “cirque” flare, Luez went on to expand her tribe of teachers to include Tricia Hurley, improv belly dance; Kristin Desjadon, aerial lyra; Sarah Neville, hoop dance; Lindsey Radice, former Las Vegas burlesque dancer, and many more.
Of course, more traditional offerings such as yoga, personal training, and message/shiatsu therapy are available, in addition to the “Cirque” inspired classes. Luez states “there is a misconception that you have to already be in “in shape” to try these classes, and that is simply not true. Everyone has to start somewhere, and that’s where our teachers shine.”
