Police: Lower Makefield father kills son, himself

Posted

An 8-year-old student at Afton Elementary School in Lower Makefield is dead, the victim of what township police are calling a murder suicide.

Police said they believe Joseph Rozario, 47, killed his son Fabian and then fatally shot himself in the head.

Their bodies were discovered Thursday evening after police were dispatched to a house on the 500 block of Heritage Oak Drive for a wellness check on the home’s occupants, according to a statement from the department.

Police said officers arrived shortly after 6 p.m., checked the perimeter of the house, saw two people inside who were unresponsive, then entered the home.

They found both Joseph and Fabian dead, apparently from gunshots to the head. Autopsies are scheduled for today and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

The Rozarios, police said, are believed to have lived in Lower Makefield for about the last four years.

Pennsbury School District has arranged for grief counseling for students, staff and families from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Afton Elementary School.

Superintendent Dr. Thomas A. Smith said in an emailed statement to the school community that the district can be a resource for families in times of hardship as Fabian was “taken from us far too soon.”

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family for this loss,” Smith wrote.
