Poet’s Corner comes to Doylestown Library

Posted

Tom Mallouk, curator of the Poet’s Corner, announces an evening to celebrate the wealth of poetic talent in Bucks County with a special event at the Doylestown Library.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., local poets are invited to read their work to an inviting and enthusiastic audience.

When asked about the genesis of the event, Mallouk replied, “When I started Poet’s Corner with the financial backing of the Marv and Diana Woodall family foundation, I had no idea of the extent, range and diversity of poetry being written by local poets.

“Sadly, I could only choose 52 poems from the hundreds submitted, and I decided to try to find a way to invite those voices into the poetic conversation. I’ve personally invited the poets who submitted work to Poet’s Corner, but the open mic is available to anyone who wants to present their poems in public.”

A few spots are being reserved for youth poets and Hayden Saunier of the Arts and Cultural Council of Doylestown, and Bucks County Poet Laureate emeritus, will introduce the youth poets. The rest of the event will be hosted by Mallouk.

To guarantee an opportunity to read, register in advance on the Doylestown Library website, https://buckslib.org/. If time and space allow, poets who did not pre-register may also be invited to read.

This event is free and open to the public. Come to enjoy an evening celebrating poetry in Bucks County.
