Posted

By virtue of their 8-6 extra-inning win at No. 8 Ridley in Tuesday’s District One 6A softball playback, the No. 13 Pennridge Rams march on to states.

Pennridge (16-8), the SOL National runner-up, has now won seven of its last nine. Reagan Bauman and Averi Dockery both hit RBI singles in the ninth to clinch Pennridge’s first trip to PIAAs in 35 seasons.

The Rams will face No. 3 Garnet Valley in Thursday’s 5/6 seeding game. Garnet Valley beat No. 18 Central Bucks South (13-11) 4-2 in playbacks. This year CB South beat the SOL Patriot champion (Pennsbury 7-6 on May 3), Liberty champion (Quakertown 6-3 on May 24) and Freedom champion (William Tennent 7-0 on May 12). The Titans overcame a 5-5 start to advance deep into playoffs.

In District 11, the No. 1 Palisades Pirates softball team hopes to defend their 3A crown. They took on No. 4 Pine Grove in Allentown’s Pates Park in Wednesday’s late game for the championship. Palisades (20-1) topped No. 3 Pen Argyl 5-3 in the May 25 district semifinal. Sophomore right fielder Erin Wallbillich drove in two to pace the Pirates.

In 6A baseball playbacks, No. 23 Quakertown’s (11-13) upset run came to an end with an 8-4 loss on Tuesday at No. 4 Abington. Matt Marsten hit a two-run single and scored on an RBI ground out to briefly give Quakertown a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth. The Panthers started this year 1-7 yet came within an inning of their first PIAA berth.

No. 6 Palisades upset No. 3 Williams Valley 8-3 in the first round of the District 11 2A baseball tournament, but fell to No. 2 Schuylkill Haven 4-0 in Sunday’s semifinal. The Pirates end their season 8-14.
