Nockamixon calls for new volunteers to help resume Cleanup Day

Posted

Nockamixon Township wants to resume its annual roadside Cleanup Day, which was suspended due to the pandemic, and is looking for new volunteers to help make it possible, in the spring.
Township officials made the plea at the Oct. 20 public board of supervisors meeting.
They noted that their volunteer lists were dated, and called for new participants, particularly appealing to new residents. They also want help in getting volunteers, and hope to find at least one key person for that, and the effort as a whole, and get all relevant information in hand by January. Also at the meeting, supervisors approved the 2023 township budget for advertising. For 2022, they adopted a budget that included a tax increase, as the addition of one-third mil, for a new total of 6.66 mils. That action was understood to be the second of three installments, for a total of 0.99 mil by 2023, with the estimated annual average annual impact on residents at $11.

The three-stage increase was the first tax increase since 2009, which officials said was to serve the same need as the current increase: more support for fire service. The 2023 budget is expected to be on the agenda for final approval at the Nov. 17 public supervisors meeting.
Regarding the proposed revised groundwater preservation ordinance, officials reported that work was in progress to address comments received at a special work session that was conducted earlier in the month.
In a development matter, supervisors granted conditional preliminary/final approval, including waivers in hand, for a subdivision of the 17-acre Hutchinson tract on Byers Road. As presented by Adam D. Crews of Crews Surveying LLC in Pipersville, the plan calls for division into three lots. Among a variety of topics, it addresses adequate water supply and quality; frontage improvements; and stormwater management.
