NJ Conservation Foundation sets 29th annual Jones Memorial Hike

Posted

Partake in autumn’s splendor with friends and family as the N.J. Conservation Foundation celebrates the work and lives of its friends Donald and Beverley Jones.

This year’s Donald & Beverley Jones Memorial Hike, on Sunday, Nov. 12, will mark the 29th anniversary of this event. The featured hike will bring participants to preserved forests and fields surrounding the Lockatong Creek.

New Jersey Conservation Foundation has worked with partners for over 20 years to preserve beautiful and ecologically important lands in the Lockatong watershed. Along with Hunterdon Land Trust, Hunterdon County, and the State of New Jersey, the foundation has protected this awe-inspiring place that is home to people, plants, and animals – including the threatened long-tailed salamander.

Choose from one of these beautiful hikes:

•Meet at the Prallsville Mills, Stockton, N.J., at noon and carpool to the starting location about seven minutes away. The hike will showcase scenic cliffs as well as the beautiful fields and forests neighboring the Lockatong Creek. Hikers can enjoy lands preserved by Hunterdon Land Trust, Hunterdon County, and New Jersey Conservation Foundation. There is rough field and forest trail walking on this 3-mile walk.

•At 1:30 p.m., take a family-friendly hike that is appropriate for all ages and will highlight the Wickecheoke Creek and the preserved lands along the Wickecheoke Greenway. The hike involves road walking and is 1.5 miles.

All hikes depart from the Prallsville Mills, with refreshments provided by ShopRite of Hunterdon County. The hikes will return at 2:30 p.m. for Local Harvest pizza and hyper-local OddBird Brewing beer (for ages 21+).
