New Hope Historical Society hosts annual Fall Foliage Tour Chuck Tarr

Posted

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, the New Hope Historical Society will reprise its popular Fall Foliage Walking Tour along some of the most historic and picturesque settings in Bucks County.

The tour, led by Roy Ziegler, past-president, and current member of the society’s board of directors, will begin at the recently created environmental conservation trail around the Parry Mansion at 45 S. Main St., New Hope.

Situated along the Aquetong Creek, the mansion offers spectacular views of the creek and foliage along both sides. Find out what industries thrived along the historic waterway two centuries ago.

From there, the tour moves to the picturesque Delaware Canal towpath and then on to magnificent Manchester Valley, once the location of New Hope’s largest mills. Then, the backyard of the Wedgwood Inn will offer a splendid vista of the valley below.

Rounding out the tour, a rare glimpse of the 1740s Paxson/Rhoads Homestead will take visitors down Maple Grove, back to the time when part of George Washington’s army encamped there prior to the historic crossing of the Delaware.

Refreshments will be served at the Parry Mansion following the tour. Tickets for the tour, including the refreshments, are $10 and can be purchased at newhopehistorical.org. All proceeds benefit the work of the New Hope Historical Society.
