National Rosie the Riveter Day

Posted

Mae Krier, 98, one of the original “Rosie the Riveters” of WWII, and Rita Colella, 101, another “Rosie,” were on hand Saturday, March 16, to kick off the presentation of Doylestown Historical Society’s newest video in the “Salute to Service” video history series.

Shown at the Central Bucks Senior Center in Doylestown before a crowd of 120 people, the video featured Krier, speaking about her WWII experience as “Rosie the Riveter,” wearing the iconic red and white bandanna of the world famous “We Can Do It!” poster by J. Howard Miller.

Krier’s birthday, on March 21, is the date now recognized as National Rosie the Riveter Day, after she spent years advocating for “Rosie’s recognition” with the hope of empowering all girls to believe in their own powerful potential.

Krier participated in a cause much greater than she could imagine during WWII, and the video resonates with her passion and her adamant belief that, “there was a country to save.”

The 30-minute video interview is available on the DHS YouTube Channel beginning at noon March 21, Krier’s 98th birthday and Rosie The Riveter Day, at: https://www.youtube.com/@DoylestownHS.
