MLB nabs two former Quakertown Blazers

Posted

Two Quakertown Blazers alumni had their name called during this week’s Major League Draft.

The Minnesota Twins selected catcher Andrew Cossetti out of St. Joseph’s in the 11th round with the 324th pick. In the draft’s 20th and final round, the Colorado Rockies selected Lehigh’s Carlos Torres with the 596th pick.

Cossetti, a La Salle High grad from Eagleville, got to play with Quakertown before his matriculation on Hawk Hill. In 2018, Cossetti appeared in 26 games, hitting .312 with 15 RBIs, the third best on the Blazers. He holds St. Joseph’s career (43) and single season (19) home run records; his 65 RBIs this year is also a single season St. Joseph’s record.

Pitcher Torres, a Perkiomen School product via Puerto Rico, appeared in two games for the 2021 Blazers. This spring, he struck out 45 batters in 34.2 innings pitched.
