Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) multimedia technology students won awards at the Greenville Youth Film Festival.

The festival is described as “a forum for young filmmakers from the metropolitan Philadelphia region to collaborate, create and showcase their work while expressing their creativity through film.” It culminates in an awards show where student creators have the opportunity to win a “Greeny” award. Two student groups from MBIT were recognized during the awards presentation.

Kaiya Crowley from Central Bucks West clinched top honors for Best Documentary with her entry “Pointe of Expression.” Meanwhile, the collaborative effort of Connor Kozlowski, William Tantum and Brian Daly, all hailing from Central Bucks South, earned the Best Comedy award for their comedic film titled, “What About the Lasers?”

Reflecting on the experience, Brian Daly, an MBIT multimedia technology student, remarked, “It was truly an enriching experience. Having attended the event last year, we were already inspired by the passion and dedication displayed by fellow young filmmakers. This year, witnessing the elevated quality of submissions was immensely gratifying, and being recognized among them is a profound honor.”

Crowley added, “The Greenville Youth Film Festival provided a stimulating platform for aspiring filmmakers to showcase their creativity. Each film was a testament to the talent within our age group, and the anticipation of hearing one’s name called was unparalleled. I am immensely thankful for this invaluable experience and the acknowledgment received.”

The multimedia technology program at MBIT is taught by James Davey, an Emmy Award recipient in his own right. Since joining Middle Bucks in January 2015, Davey has mentored students from Centennial, Central Bucks, Council Rock and New Hope-Solebury school districts. The program not only nurtures students’ storytelling abilities but also equips them with industry techniques, certifications, and essential software and hardware skills for content creation in various sectors including business, education, and entertainment.

Expressing his pride in his students’ accomplishments, Davey said, “I commend all my students for continually pushing the boundaries of creativity. Kaiya’s documentary was a masterpiece of artful storytelling, while the team behind the funniest film showcased remarkable innovation and ingenuity.”
