Lower Makefield hosting Veterans Day events

Posted

Lower Makefield Township is hosting several Veterans Day events starting Friday, Nov. 4.

On that day, there will be a Folds of Honor Scramble starting at 8 a.m. and then a 5K/10K race starting at 4:30 p.m. Both events are at the Makefield Highlands Golf Club on Woodside Road and will raise money for the Folds of Honor, a nonprofit scholarship program that provides school tuition funding for local families of fallen soldiers.

The township will hold its 16th annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 5 starting at 1 p.m. (rain or shine) at Edgewood and Long Acre roads and proceeding down Edgewood to Veterans Square Park, where a brief ceremony will be held honoring local veterans.

The parade will be led by motorcyclists from the Warriors Watch Riders support group and will also include VFW and American Legion organizations, military vehicles, local fire companies, Boy and Girl Scout troops and many others.

The Veterans Square Foundation will be collecting supplies for homeless veterans. Parade participants and attendees are asked to bring any of the following items: laundry detergent pods, bottled water, hand warmers, ponchos, wash cloths, socks, men’s underwear and T-shirts, shaving razors, women’s hair products, microwaveable meals, fruit cups, snack bars and gloves. There will be collection boxes at the end of the parade route and also at the township community center on Oxford Valley Road through Nov. 7.
