Hunterdon Choral Alliance to present annual holiday show

Posted

The Hunterdon Choral Alliance, featuring its three member groups, the Hunterdon Harmonizers, Vocal Synergy and Allegro, the newest choral group for high school students, will present an original musical comedy and holiday concert.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, 84 Highway 31 in Flemington, N.J. The Red Devil Pit Orchestra of Hunterdon Central Regional High School, under the direction of Will Magalio, will also be featured.

This year’s play, “The Great North Pole Cookoff,” is a fun “reality-television-style” adventure that both children and adults alike can enjoy. The show features Santa and Mrs. Claus in a heated competition in the Kringle kitchen. Will Santa’s soufflé rise to the top? How will Mrs. Claus handle the heat of Hanukkah favorites? Audience members can cheer on their favorite character, gasp at the unpredictable twists, and enjoy the musical undertones as the contestants try to sing their way to the champion’s table.

The fun continues with a concert of seasonal favorites by the choral groups. The evening will conclude with a timeless Harmonizers’ holiday tradition: performers and audience members will gather on stage to sing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from the “Messiah” with a full orchestra.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, $10 for students ages 7-18 and free for children 6 and under. Wheelchair seating is available. Call 908-806-6683 in advance or email sing@njchoralalliance.org to discuss any needed accommodations. For information or to purchase tickets in advance, visit njharmonizers.org.

Additionally, the nonprofit Alliance will host the Flemington Food Pantry at the event. Concert attendees are invited to bring a food item to help the pantry fill its cupboards, allowing community neighbors in need to enjoy a true holiday feast.
