Hilltown supervisors approve Burger King at routes 313, 113

The King is coming to Hilltown.

Ampler Restaurant Group, a Georgia-based company, has received the green light from the Hilltown Board of Supervisors to build a Burger King at the busy intersection of Route 313 and Route 113 — a site where there’s already a Wawa.

Supervisors, a three-person municipal board that locally governs the township, granted final approval on the project at a public meeting on Monday. The Hilltown Planning Commission had previously given unanimous approval but Ampler needed the final O.K. from supervisors before the project could move forward.

Supervisor Caleb Torrice said it’s unclear when the building of the BK will commence and when it will open. He noted that Ampler expects about 80% of its business at the location to come via drive-thru, though on-site seating/dining will be offered, too.

The envisioned Burger King building will be about 3,100 square feet, according to Ampler’s plans.

Hours of operation are scheduled to be 6 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday. Saturday and Sunday will be 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. It’s possible the Burger King could eventually apply to operate 24 hours a day but that’s not being proposed at this point.

“We approved 24-hour lighting at the site, as there is already a Wawa there that operates 24/7 and has lighting,” said Torrice.

Several years ago, supervisors granted preliminary approval for a fast-food restaurant with a drive-thru to be situated on the approximately 4-acre property when they approved a development plan that ultimately saw an older, smaller Wawa torn down and a modern Wawa with gas pumps constructed.

The new Wawa opened in 2021 but the fast-food component of the project — Phase 2 — remained on the back burner until Ampler came forward recently with the plan for the Burger King.

The Wawa and Burger King are situated at a high-traffic intersection that includes a CVS and a Weis Markets store. Route 113 is a significant east-west connector in Upper Bucks, while 313 is a major route connecting Quakertown and Doylestown.

According to its website, Ampler Restaurant Group owns and operates 174 Burger King locations in the U.S. The company says it has 462 restaurant locations overall. Its other quick-service restaurant brands include Taco Bell, Little Caesars, and Church’s Texas Chicken.
