Golf: Moelter, Wiseman, Lynn stand out at states

Posted

Nine area golfers competed at the PIAA championships, held Monday and Tuesday at Penn State’s Blue and White courses.

The second round was delayed due to overnight frost. Perhaps it cooled off the participants as well. Eight of the nine golfers shot better on Monday than on Tuesday.

SOL champion senior Abby Lynn (CB West) played the back nine in 2-under par to finish tied for fourth with a +3 (75) on Monday’s first round. After her 76 on Tuesday, Lynn finished the tournament in eighth place with a 7-over par.

New Hope-Solebury senior Nate Wiseman overcame a first hole bogey to shoot 2-over par for the rest of the first round and finish Monday with a 75. Wiseman carded an 80 on Tuesday. His +11 was good enough to tie for 16th in the 72-player 2A tournament. His teammate and classmate, District One champion Malcolm Raupp, shot an 80-84 +20.

CB South senior Noah Moelter, who finished fourth in districts, put together four birdies over an eight-hole stretch on Monday to take an even-par 72 into the clubhouse. He finished the tournament with a 4-over par 72-76, good for a sixth-place tie in the 72-player 3A field.

CB West junior Chase Feraco, the SOL champion, and CR North senior Nick Riscica both shot identical 75-76 scores to finish at 7-over par and in a tie for 23rd place. Feraco shot even par on the first 11 holes on Monday. Riscica overcame a slow opening five holes to finish Monday at 1-over par on his last 13 holes.

CB West sophomore Ryan Quinn fired a +17 with an 81-80 score. CB East junior Will Dunsmore finished one stroke behind Quinn with an 80-82. CR North junior Andrew Zazoff carded a +23 with an 81-86.
