Fresh off their PIAA team tennis title, three Council Rock South Golden Hawks returned to Hershey Racquet Club last Friday and Saturday and hauled home even more state medals.
The District One 3A champion doubles duo of sophomore Michelle Lerman and junior Anya Zubenko won the silver, falling to Spring-Ford seniors Mia Matriccino and Evelyn Mejia 7-6, 6-3 in the final. It was a rematch of the District One semifinal where Lerman and Zubenko triumphed 6-2, 6-3.
The South duo lost just five sets in their opening two rounds. They topped Parkland’s Alexandria Warsing and Sophia Petrocelli 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 in the semis.
South senior Dasha Chichkina, the District One 3A silver medalist and reigning state silver medalist, took home the bronze. She defeated Liberty’s Helena Lynn 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the third-place game. Chichkina cruised through her opening rounds – dropping just two sets – before falling to Central Mountain’s Addison Lindsay 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Chichkina, Lerman and Zubenko are the respective first, second and third singles on the Golden Hawks’ tennis team.
