Front nine: Nine golfers move from districts to states

Nine area golfers earned invites to the PIAA tournament at the conclusion of the District One championships on Tuesday afternoon.

CB South’s Noah Moelter shot a 1-under par 71 in Tuesday’s second round to finish at 1-under for the two-day tournament and in fourth place for 3A boys. CB West’s Chase Feraco finished tied for fifth, three strokes behind Moelter.

CB West’s Ryan Quinn and CB East’s Will Dunsmore also moved on by firing 3-over-par 75s on Tuesday. Quinn tied for eighth with a two-day total of 151, one stroke better than Dunsmore’s 152.

The top 18 boys medaled and got invited to PIAAs. Two Council Rock North products – Nick Riscica and Andrew Zazoff came in the six-way tie for 13th and the final spots. Each Indian carded a 9-over-par 153. Riscica birdied two of his last three holes to earn the states’ invitation. Zazoff made states in his first year of playing competitive golf.

In 2A, two senior New Hope-Solebury Lions – Malcolm Raupp and Nate Wiseman – both earned an invite to states. Raupp, thanks to a 3-over-par 75 on Monday was the 2A low score medalist with a 13-over-par 157. Wiseman tied for second, three strokes behind Raupp.

In girls 3A, CB West’s Abby Lynn shot even par on the back nine on Tuesday to card a two-day 9-over-par 152. The performance earned her ninth place in the district tournament and the final spot in PIAAs.

New Hope-Solebury’s Raupp, Wiseman, Ehren Weyman and Max Wright also won the 2A team tournament with a 35-over-par 323. CB West’s team of Feraco, Lynn, Quinn and D.J. Fiorita placed fifth in the 3A boys team tournament with a 25-over 313.

Both rounds of the boys individual and boys team championships were played at Limerick’s Turtle Creek Golf Course. Turtle Creek also hosted day two of the girls individual and team titles. The opening round was played Monday at Ravens’ Claw Golf Club in Pottstown.

Several area products entered districts with strong showings in the Sept. 28 SOL championship at Warminster’s Five Ponds Golf Course. A pair of CB West Bucks claimed the boys and girls titles. Feraco’s 70 won the boys by three strokes behind Souderton’s Aidan Scott. Moelter and Riscica tied for third with a 74.

Lynn also carded a 70 and repeated as the SOL girls titlist. CB East’s Elle Lundquist finished third in the SOL with a 72.

The PIAA individual and team championships will be held Oct. 17 through 19 at Penn State’s Blue and White Courses.
