Painter John Schmidtberger, who founded SFA Gallery in 2011, will be the featured artist this February and March.

An opening reception for the artist will be held at his gallery at 10 Bridge St., Frenchtown, N.J., from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The paintings on view include landscapes, still lifes, garden scenes, nautical scenes and architectural subjects. Sizes range from small 8- by 8-inch) to very large (44- by 44-inch) and represent both plein air and studio productions.

Schmidtberger’s work is known for its distinctive style, which he calls “Poetic Realism,” featuring strong light, brilliant color and forceful, gestural brushwork.
