Free credit counseling available at BCCC Lower, Upper Bucks campuses

Posted

Free credit counseling for a variety of different financial situations was celebrated April 4 at the Bucks County Community College Gene & Marlene Epstein Lower Bucks County campus in Bristol Township.

The services available to BCCC students, staff and surrounding residents are provided by the nonprofit Credit Counseling Center and have been up and running at the campus since October, with office hours on Mondays and Tuesdays. Credit Counseling Center provides the same services at the BCCC Upper Bucks County campus in Perkasie, with office hours on Tuesdays.

The service can provide help with managing student debt, mortgage payments, developing a plan for paying off debt and staying debt free, becoming a home buyer, building up savings, and other items, according to information handed out at the Tuesday event, which included a ribbon cutting to commemorate the credit counseling service.

“Whatever it takes for people to move forward with their finances, we can help with,” said Credit Counseling Center Executive Director Paula Powers-Watts. “This new partnership with BCCC has become an essential element in our mission. We’re very grateful for this opportunity.”

Powers-Watts said the center is able to offer the free counseling services because of “lots of grants and donations.”

James Sell, executive dean of the Lower Bucks and Upper Bucks campuses, thanked the center for the many benefits it can offer students, staff and residents.

“We’re passionate about and extremely proud of this partnership,” he said. “We’re always about partnerships, about blending with the community, helping the community.”
