Follow the science when hiring cops

Posted

In her Bucks County Herald article (“Just, safe policing starts with data and transparency” June 1), the NAACP’s Karen Downer reminds us to go with the science. Good advice. Get the data.

How many persons of color are on the police force in your municipality? What is the racial breakdown of those pulled over? What’s known about the use of force by race and the level of force?

To Downer’s list, please add a psychiatric profile for all potential hires. There are tests; reliable science is there. And individuals prone to cruelty, subjugation and authoritarianism can be identified. Men and women inclined to those attributes should not be police officers.
