Find a farm stand near you

Posted

Chris and Maria Dougherty want everyone across Bucks County to know where they can find the freshest produce from the region’s abundant farms.

With “Bucks Local,” a website that includes an interactive online map, the Buckingham couple is providing just that, said Chris Dougherty.

Growing up in the area, the 2007 Central Bucks West graduate said, “I’ve always observed the farm stands in our area and I always thought it would be great to have a guide to visit them all.”

The new website — https://www.buckslocal.org/ — has already posted about 40 stands, said the software developer, with a few just outside of Bucks in Hunterdon and Lehigh counties.

“The aim is to share the farm stands and farm stores that are hard to find on Google or are not on Google maps,” he said.

Launched just about a week ago, the site has attracted a lot of attention on Facebook, posting stands that offer everything from eggs, honey and meat, to others with produce, fresh flowers, soaps and dry goods.

The public is encouraged to suggest locations they don’t see on the platform, said Dougherty. “I know there are a lot more.”

Going forward, the couple envisions the website being a tool to finding other “cool stuff” too. Coffees, crafts and “hidden gems” of historical significance that may have escaped notice are planned.

“I want people to keep submitting places,” he said.

He’ll be adding addresses, directions, a list of what each stand and store offers, a way for farm owners to log in and edit details on their listing and photos. A mobile app is also planned.

“It’s really nice to have this resource and share it with the community,” said Dougherty.
