Eight harriers, CR North off to state cross country

The District One cross country championships were held last Friday at Lehigh University.

The top 30 3A finishers advanced to states. Among area products moving on were Council Rock North’s Jack Czarnecki who ran the 5,000 meters in 17th place and 15:57.7 and CB West’s Owen Donaher, who finished one spot behind him at 15:58.3.

CR North earned a berth to states by claiming the sixth and final team spot. Brady Ott and Joe Crowne both finished in the top 40.

On the girls side, Pennridge sophomore Ashley Landis finished in 11th place with an 18:31.1. Council Rock South’s Bailey Gassmann crossed the tape two spots and 3.6 seconds later. Landis’ teammate Nora Ritting also qualified for PIAAs. Her 18:54.0 was good for 22nd place. A pair of CB South Titans will also be moving on. Jillian Thorning (21st place) and Riley Rooney (29th place) finished with an 18:53.9 and a 19:11.3 respectively.

New Hope-Solebury freshman Ruby Keddie qualified in 2A, finishing ninth with a 20:47.1 time.

The PIAA championships will be held this Saturday at the Parkview course in Hershey.
