Doylestown woman will serve jail time for her role in Jan. 6 insurrection

Posted

A Doylestown woman and former gym owner was sentenced to one year in jail for storming into the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021, where she filmed herself saying she wanted to shoot the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, “in her friggin brain.”

A federal judge said Dawn Bancroft, 59, will spend a year in jail, followed by three years of probation and 100 hours of community service. Bancroft pleaded guilty to the unlawful protesting misdemeanor in September.

In May, Bancroft won a local primary race for committeewoman in Doylestown Borough’s second district. It’s unclear if she will serve in that position.

District Judge Emmet Sullivan called Bancroft’s comments “reckless” and told her comments on the video “are not acceptable in a democratic society,” according to reporting by CNN.

Carina Laguzzi, a Philadelphia criminal defense attorney, represented Bancroft and, according to court documents, told the court her client’s comments weren’t serious.

“She was not seen walking around, and thus was not looking for anyone. Who hasn’t told their spouse, ‘I’m going to kill you if you leave your shoes on the carpet again!’

“Clearly, the video was made in jest and bravado,” said Laguzzi.
