Rugby teams add to trophy collection

The Doylestown Rugby women’s team went undefeated to take the first-place trophy at the Cheesesteak 7s Tournament on Saturday, July 9, at Alapocas Run State Park in Wilmington, Del.

The Dragons defeated the Lancaster Thorns, Brandywine Riot and Wilmington Women to make it to the semifinals where they defeated Brandywine Riot again. Doylestown then defeated Philly in the finals.

The team is always looking for more players.

The Doylestown Academy girls rugby team came out victorious over Morris, 31-5, in the first annual Beauty and the Pitch Tournament held on Saturday, July 9 at Turk Park II in Doylestown. The girls defeated Knightmares of Lancaster, 17-7, tied PlayRugby, 12-12, and defeated Stateburg, a combination of two teams from the Harrisburg area, 38-7, to make it to the semifinals. Doylestown then defeated PlayRugby in the semifinals, 28-14.

Sydney Haddon led the team with five tries. Siena Accardi and Liz Johnston each had four tries. Maddie Doyle had three tries, and both Maggie Austin and Nolah Flynn tacked on two tries. Flynn also made 14 conversions. The girls will take some much-needed time off before heading into the fall 7s season.

The team is always looking for more players.

Both the junior and youth boys teams competed on Saturday, July 9, at the Elizabethtown 7s. The youth won the championship, going 4-0. They beat Cumberland Valley 44-0, Coventry “A” 21-17, Coventry “B” 51-0 in the semifinal and Coventry “A” in the 50-0 championship. The juniors finished in second place, going 2-2 in the round robin. They lost to Elizabethtown 19-12, beat Coventry 43-12, beat Coventry 29-12 and lost to Elizabethtown 19-12.
