Doylestown native named New Jersey State Bar Young Lawyer of the Year

Doylestown native and Central Bucks West High School alumna Katrina M. Homel, was recognized as the 2024 Young Lawyer of the Year in May at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City.

Homel was selected by a panel of her peers for this award in recognition of her personal and professional achievements, as well as her active participation in the organized bar over the past year.

An attorney at the New Jersey Education Association in Trenton, N.J., Homel served as the chair of the Association’s Young Lawyers Division and a Young lawyer trustee on the Association’s Board of Trustees in the 2023-2024 term. Under her leadership, the Division created a new committee for young lawyers focused on attorney wellness and implemented a diversity action plan, among other initiatives.

She is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs for lawyers. She continues to represent young lawyers as a member of the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law and is an alum of the New Jersey Law Journal’s Young Lawyers Advisory Board. Homel also serves as the secretary of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation Board of Trustees. She currently chairs the Foundation’s Task Force on Fellowship Development. Homel previously served for two years as the chair of the Foundation’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee.

In addition, Homel was honored for significant community and public service contributions. She is a member of her local historic preservation commission, and recently participated in revising the town’s historic preservation ordinance. She is active with her local Democratic Committee and the New Jersey chapter of the Vassar College alumni association. She recently served on the boards of the YWCA Princeton and UU FaithAction NJ, in addition to other community leadership roles. Homel is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and resides in Pennington, N.J., with her husband, attorney Wade Koenecke.
